Objectives and Achievements
Unit Description
ID+ is jointly hosted by three Portuguese institutions. The structures of ID+ are driven by specific objectives and projects, articulating basic and applied research. The Institute is rooted on the mission to establish effective working ties between Design Research and Institutional Partners towards cultural, economic and social development. The organization of ID+ will be based, first and foremost, on a network that links Design, Industry, Culture and Media, based on principles of flexibility, autonomy, efficiency and acknowledgement. In addition, this network will invest on national and international academic partners from diverse scientific areas as a clear strategy for broadening its social, cultural and economic impact.
The overall activity of ID+ will be supervised by a general council, ensuring the management and inter-relation of its distinct areas of operation. Each specific project will host an associated work group. Both the council and the work groups will integrate a combination of professionals and researchers (from both basic and applied research contexts). In addition, ID+ will host a consulting board made of Industrial, Economic and Cultural agents from the national and international milieu. Within the scope of two years, the number of PhD Researchers (FTE) in Design will grow substantially. This growth will support the future organisation of ID+ in groups, under the strategic areas defined in the present document. This organisation under strategic areas, rather than under hosting institutions, will ensure the sharing of resources as well as the formation of a wider and stronger shared Research Culture.
